Virtual Reality Vault

The biggest issue with 2d plans and 3d images is that our clients struggle to understand the designs concept and when you are paying thousands of pounds on a building project this is not good enough. We use virtual reality as part of the design process to show you options and allow you to walk around the proposals as if you would in real life. You get a sense of how the completed building will feel and the sense of space.

The Western Concourse was designed by John McAslan + Partners, this is the most striking modern feature. Its diagrid-patterned, semi-circular roof is one of Europe’s largest single-span station structures and floods the space with natural light. The innovative design allowed it to be built without placing loads on the historic Western Range building next to it. The Grade I-listed station’s main façade was once obscured by a 1970s extension. The restoration removed this addition, revealing the grand, symmetrical brick arches and clock tower as Cubitt originally intended.

The Eastern Range refurbishment included transforming the Eastern Range building, which now features modern offices and a new Platform 0 underneath it. St Pancras International Station is located immediately to the west of King’s Cross, this station provides a vivid contrast in 19th-century railway design. The ornate Gothic Revival station was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, and its restoration in 2007 brought back its intricate terracotta façade and majestic train shed. The two neighboring stations collectively serve as a striking lesson in contrasting Victorian architectural styles. The area’s transformation extends far beyond the stations, converting former railway goods yards and industrial land into a major commercial, cultural, and residential hub.

A master plan by architects including Allies and Morrison has guided the development, with many prominent buildings added since the 2010s. Coal Drops Yard was designed by Thomas Heatherwick, this retail and restaurant complex creatively reused two Victorian-era coal drops. Its distinctive “kissing roof” joins the historic structures and creates a dramatic new space. Granary Square is large public square is a central feature of the regeneration, built on the site of a former goods yard. It is fronted by the Granary Building, a repurposed 19th-century structure that now houses the University of the Arts London. The square features a popular fountain with individually programmed jets.

The German Gymnasium is Britain’s first purpose-built gymnasium, constructed in 1865, has been preserved and reimagined as a restaurant and bar. Gasholder Apartments development saw three Victorian gasholder frames repurposed as the structural framework for a series of new luxury apartment blocks, designed by WilkinsonEyre. Google Headquarters (“Landscraper”) is the massive, new Google HQ building is a testament to the area’s modern development. Designed by Heatherwick Studio and Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the 330-meter-long building features rooftop terraces and a running track. The Lighthaus is a distinctive pavilion with a patterned cast-iron facade, it connects Granary Square to the lower-level Coal Drops Yard.

Architecture in Kings Cross

The King’s Cross area showcases a compelling blend of historic railway architecture and ambitious contemporary urban regeneration. The architecture encompasses the original Victorian stations, the restoration of industrial buildings, and striking 21st-century additions, including major commercial and residential projects. King’s Cross Station was originally designed by architect Lewis Cubitt and opened in 1852, the station was a functionalist masterpiece that featured two large iron-ribbed, glazed train sheds with simple yellow stock brickwork. A major regeneration project from 2007 to 2012 restored the original Victorian design while adding stunning new architectural elements.
