Virtual Reality Vault

The biggest issue with 2d plans and 3d images is that our clients struggle to understand the designs concept and when you are paying thousands of pounds on a building project this is not good enough. We use virtual reality as part of the design process to show you options and allow you to walk around the proposals as if you would in real life. You get a sense of how the completed building will feel and the sense of space.

Hummingbird Front Elevation

Stamford traces its roots back to the Saxon period. By the early 1300s, the town was a wealthy center for the wool and cloth trade, attracting religious and academic institutions. Its importance as a stop on the stagecoach routes further elevated its prominence and funded many of its fine buildings. Limestone Construction: Stamford is known as “the finest stone town in England,” utilizing locally quarried limestone for its buildings. The rooftops are a distinctive feature, incorporating Collyweston slates, a specific type of limestone that is split and dressed for roofing, giving the town a unique appearance.

Notable examples include the 12th-century All Saints’ Church and the elegant St. Mary’s Church. Prosperous merchants and professionals built fine vernacular and later Classical Georgian houses that form a significant part of the town’s character. The town’s relative lack of railway lines and subsequent World War II bombing spared it from the extensive modern development seen elsewhere.

Stamford boasts more than 600 listed buildings, accounting for roughly half of all the listed buildings in Lincolnshire, a testament to its rich architectural heritage. The well-preserved streets have made Stamford a popular filming location, most famously for the BBC adaptation of George Eliot’s Middlemarch. The consistent quality of the buildings and the streetscapes creates an authentic and harmonious atmosphere that continues to attract visitors.

Architecture in Stamford

Stamford is celebrated for its remarkable stone architecture, with its historic core featuring a blend of medieval churches and Georgian town houses, built with locally quarried limestone and unique Collyweston roof slates. Founded in the Saxon era and a wool trading hub by the 14th century, the town’s prosperity funded its extensive construction. Stamford was designated Britain’s first Conservation Area in 1967, largely due to its preservation from industrial development and World War II bombing, which allowed its well-preserved streets and buildings to remain largely untouched, creating a fine stone town with a rich, continuous architectural history.
