Virtual Reality Vault

The biggest issue with 2d plans and 3d images is that our clients struggle to understand the designs concept and when you are paying thousands of pounds on a building project this is not good enough. We use virtual reality as part of the design process to show you options and allow you to walk around the proposals as if you would in real life. You get a sense of how the completed building will feel and the sense of space.

Architecture in Newmarket

The architecture in Newmarket, Suffolk, is defined by its prestigious status as the home for thoroughbred horse racing in the UK. The built environment of Newmarket is a sophisticated tapestry of red-brick Georgian elegance and sprawling, high-walled Victorian racing stables. From the refined classical influence of the Jockey Club to the historic remnants of King Charles II’s Palace House, the town’s aesthetic is one of regal, high-ceilinged grandeur. Newmarket’s historic architecture is protected through strict conservation areas, ensuring that new developments respect the scale, materiality, and sporting heritage that have defined the town for over 350 years.

At Cameron Bosque Brookes Architects we pride ourselves on being an award winning established RIBA local Newmarket architect practice. Cameron Bosque Brookes have extensive knowledge of West Suffolk planning policies and heritage requirements. Newmarket, Suffolk, possesses a unique architectural character that serves as a physical record of its evolution from a royal Stuart retreat to the global epicentre of horse racing. The town’s aesthetic is defined by a prestigious blend of red-brick Georgian elegance, flint-walled vernacular structures, and sprawling Victorian sporting estates. Newmarket has Royal Foundations and the Stuart Legacy.

The town’s architectural prestige was ignited in the 17th century by King Charles II. The remnants of Palace House stand as a testament to this era, reflecting the grand, high-ceilinged proportions of the Restoration period. This royal patronage established a standard of sophisticated, classical masonry that influenced the town’s development for centuries, blending flint—a staple of the Suffolk landscape—with the refined limestone dressings typical of royal residences.

The Victorian “Racing Box” aesthetic was implemented when horse racing formalised in the 19th century, Newmarket developed a highly specialised architectural style: the racing stable. The town is peppered with high-walled yards and “racing boxes”. Georgian and Civic Grandeur can be seen in the town centre which is anchored by the Jockey Club Rooms, an architectural masterpiece that has evolved through various iterations, most notably by Albert Richardson in the 1930s.

It retains a staunchly classical, quintessentially British feel, with large sash windows and symmetrical brickwork. Nearby, the Billingsley Memorial Clock Tower (built in 1887) serves as a Victorian Gothic landmark, marking the transition between the bustling High Street and the quieter, more residential “training” side of the town. What truly distinguishes Newmarket is the tactile contrast of its building materials. The rugged, textured surface of ancient flint walls sits in direct dialogue with the smooth, orange-red hues of Flemish-bond brickwork. This material palette is visible in the town’s numerous historic inns and boutique hotels, which were designed to accommodate the influx of aristocrats and racing enthusiasts during the “Meetings.”
