Virtual Reality Vault

The biggest issue with 2d plans and 3d images is that our clients struggle to understand the designs concept and when you are paying thousands of pounds on a building project this is not good enough. We use virtual reality as part of the design process to show you options and allow you to walk around the proposals as if you would in real life. You get a sense of how the completed building will feel and the sense of space.

St Neots Priory: The Benedictine priory, which the town is named for, was founded in the 10th century and later refounded in the late 11th century. While the priory was dissolved during the Reformation, its history is a foundational element of the town’s architectural heritage. Tudor House a grade II listed building on the High Street dates to the 16th century, with a central timber-framed block and gabled cross wings. Extensive additions and alterations were made in the 19th century. Black-and-white timber-framed buildings can be found in historic parts of the town, offering a glimpse into the earlier building styles. Georgian and Victorian architecture can be seen on Market Square: St Neots’ prosperity in the 18th century led to a wave of redevelopment, and many of the buildings in the Market Square were either built or re-fronted in the Georgian style.

This style is characterised by symmetrical red-brick facades and large windows. The Cross Keys Inn: Now a shopping mews, this older building was given a Georgian facade in the 1700s. Lovett Estate Agents (24 Market Square) is another example of an older building re-fronted with Georgian red brick. Morton House is an early 19th-century building on the High Street features multi-coloured stock brick and classical details like a reeded pilastered doorcase. United Reformed Church is originally a Congregationalist church, the Gothic-style building was constructed in 1888 by architect Edward Paine.

It is noted for its distinctive octagonal tower and spire. Industrial and modern architecture include Paper mills in St Neots which was a centre for paper-making in the 19th century, and some of the original mill buildings can still be seen along the River Great Ouse. A historic stone bridge crosses the river, connecting the town with Eaton Socon. A new footbridge at the railway station was completed in 2014 by Network Rail to improve access for pedestrians. Love’s Farm is a newer development which features modern housing with varied architectural designs, including multi-storey properties near the railway station with strong vertical lines and timber, glass, and rendered panels.

Architecture in St Neots

The architecture in St Neots reflects its history as a market town, featuring a mix of medieval, Tudor, Georgian, and Victorian buildings. Notable sites include the historic parish church and elegant Georgian structures around the town square, alongside examples of more recent architecture. St Neots Parish Church: Dating from the late 12th century, the church building has been altered and expanded over the centuries. Its Lady Chapel, added in the 15th century, includes a wooden screen with Perpendicular Gothic carvings.
